World War S.H.E. is a collaborative history project created by six women historians who are passionate about bringing new perspectives to World War II. The project focuses on the stories and experiences that are often overlooked, highlighting voices that have been marginalized in traditional accounts. Through careful research and engaging storytelling, the hosts aim to challenge familiar narratives and offer a richer, more inclusive understanding of this pivotal time in history.
01. The Story Behind the Work
World War S.H.E. came from a shared frustration among six women historians who noticed that even though World War II is one of the most studied periods in history, many important stories, especially those about women and underrepresented groups, often get left out. We realized there was a real need to bring those voices into the spotlight and offer a fresh take on the war that goes beyond the usual narratives. What started as casual conversations grew into a full project driven by our passion to highlight these missing pieces with both careful research and approachable storytelling. The challenge was figuring out how to cut through the noise of the many WWII stories already out there and find a way to share histories that have been overlooked or silenced in a respectful and engaging way. Sharing these stories fills gaps in history and encourages a greater understanding about how issues of identity, gender, and power from the past continue to shape our present. Bringing these perspectives forward makes history richer and opens up new conversations about representation and equity that are still important today.

03. The Impact
The impact of this project has been meaningful both for our team and our audience. By centering stories that are often overlooked, including giving voice to the children of those who lived these histories, the project strengthened the overall narrative of World War II, adding depth and complexity that traditional accounts frequently miss. Throughout the process, the team continuously reexamined how history is told and challenged our own assumptions about which voices deserve the spotlight. While the project is still growing, it has already sparked valuable conversations about representation, gender, and the power of inclusive storytelling. These discussions have reached listeners and history enthusiasts eager to explore the past through fresh and thoughtful perspectives.
